Updates following the 24hrs campus evacuation for the mid semester break.
From “OFFICE OF THE HALL OF RESIDENCE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT.
Greatest Nigerian Students
It is pertinent to inform the entire student that victoria is accerta. After series of calls and engagement between me and the management as promised yesterday, our resolve is as follows:
REASONS FOR 24HRS ULTIMATUM
This emanated as a result of the strike actions by the various bodies in the university, i.e the NASU, ASUU and the SSANU and also the fact that most students in the hostels were mobilized to join the NLC protest in town, the VC noted that because this was not properly communicated to the school, if there had been any casualties then the management will be held responsible as no adequate security is guranteed for our students. Hence an emergency meeting was summoned by the management and the decisions for a mid-semester break was reached at.
This was to ensure that students are well cared for by thier parents/ guardians. As all Unions which would have substituted this were all on strike.
Having this in mind, i spoke extensively with the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors and the Registrar respectively on the nees to allow students remain in the hostels as against the ultimatum earlier circulated for 24hrs evacuation.
¤ That the school shall embark on a 2 week mid-semester break
¤ That students can remain in thier halls of Residence, BUT
¤ Due to the strike by SSANU ASUU and NASU te university community might lack thr capacity of providing the necessary amenities needed by the residents in the hostel such as (water, electricity and cleaning)
¤ Students who will remain in the hostel during the course of this break are therefore adviced to desist from any form of protest as any protest may lead to ejection of students“
